Course Description:

This course looks at pornography in the context of both addiction models, and impulse disorder models. Attention is paid to counselor bias in assessment of client condition, and assessment from within the framework of the clients presenting cultural experience.  Interventions ranging from community support to individualized interventions for obsessive thoughts, emotional distress and impacting the family are discussed.

Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, the professional will be able to:

1.) Assess clients from within the clients presenting cultural framework

2.) Create treatment plans focusing on the concept of addiction, obsession, and social interaction.

3.) Implement strategies for mitigating client distress

4.) Work with spouses and families to process emotional impact of client behavior and to facilitate a healing and healthy family experience.

5.) Articulate various theories of sexual “addiction” and explain both the strengths and difficulties with each model.
