Course Description:
All counselors, therapists and social workers who work with addicted clients or dual diagnosed clients should be familiar with this mandated HIPAA confidentiality, documentation, and reporting ethics information.
Course Objectives:
At the end of this course the professional will be able to:
- Articulate an understanding of their professional association’s Code of Ethics.
- Understand the basic fundamentals of HIPAA law as it relates to practicing in with substance abusing clients.
- Use your respective association’s Code of Ethics to create a foundation for resolving ethical dilemmas.
Purpose of this course:
The purpose of this continuing education course is to provide a current understanding of issues relevant to the mental health counselor concerning new HIPAA guidelines for patient privacy. Current government facts, guidelines and confidentially reporting information is provided to assist counselors in clarifying paperwork and electronic data concerns.
